Augustine Scriven
Augustine Scriven (1852–1916) was an eminent Anglican priest in the last decades of the nineteenth century and the first two of the twentieth.〔(British Columbia Archival Union List )〕 He was born in Spernall, Sambourne, Warwickshire〔(Genuki (1) )〕 and educated at St Mary Hall, Oxford〔''University Intelligence'' The Times Thursday, 5 April 1888; p. 10; Issue 32352; col C〕 and ordained in 1875.〔"The Clergy List, Clerical Guide and Ecclesiastical Directory" London, Hamilton & Co 1889〕 After curacies at Kirkham and Frindsbury“Who was Who” 1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 0-7136-3457-X〕 he held incumbencies at Martinhoe〔(Genuki (2) )〕 and St Peter, Rochester. In 1884 he became Archdeacon of Vancouver〔(Gen Forum )〕 a post he held until his elevation to the Episcopate as Bishop of British Columbia in 1915.〔The Times, Friday, 6 August 1915; p. 13; Issue 40926; col G ''New Bishop of British Columbia''〕 Less than a year later he died on 21 July 1916.〔The Times, Monday, 24 July 1916; p. 11; Issue 41227; col E ''Obituaries Two Colonial Bishops''〕
